About Emily:
Hi, I’m Emily, and I know exactly how isolating DPDR can feel. My first experience with it was as a kid, around second grade—it came and went without me really understanding what it was (I just knew I was scared). But when it hit again at 18, it stayed. For five years, I lived with 24/7 DPDR. It made my life a living hell. I don’t know how I got through college. It started after a severe panic attack from a weed edible, but I’d had anxiety and panic attacks for as long as I could remember. DPDR doesn’t compare. Research connects DPDR to anxiety, but in my experience, it goes deeper—trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and other difficult experiences all play a role.
Traditional anxiety treatments didn’t work for me, and I know I’m not alone in that. So I decided to find my own way through it. I beat DPDR completely on my own. The moment I felt emotions again for the first time—the moment I felt connected to my life again—was the best moment of my life. I documented every feeling, experience, failure, and success I had during those 5 years because I swore that once I made it out, I would do whatever I could to support others during their journey of beating DPDR.
I believe that DPDR is one of the hardest mental states to endure. Nothing else has ever compared to it for me. But once I came through the other side, the anxiety and panic attacks that I used to have felt so small in comparison. Everything became clearer, more rational, and I finally felt like myself again.
That’s why I created The Reality Club. It’s the resource I wish I had during those five years. It’s a monthly subscription where you will receive invaluable support from me for your DPDR recovery journey. Every day, you’ll get:
A new recording from me telling you about how I recovered—a voice memo with something I did to recover that you can try too.
A daily affirmation tailored for DPDR and anxiety.
A journal prompt to support processing emotions and experiences.
A daily tip based on what helped me the most.
